Escrow

An account a lender uses to collect and pay property taxes and insurance on your behalf.

An escrow account holds a portion of your monthly mortgage payment set aside for property taxes and homeowners insurance. When those bills come due, the lender pays them from the account.

Escrow spreads large annual bills into manageable monthly amounts and protects the lender by ensuring taxes and insurance stay current.
